The federal government has given preliminary approval to Gov. Mike Beebe’s plan to restructure Medicaid payments to hospitals, physicians and other healthcare providers.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services e-mailed the Governor approval to advance the plan as state officials say a formal response will be granted later.

David Wroten, executive vice-president of the Arkansas Medical Society said, “We are no more supportive of the plan today than we were when it was announced. Physicians across the state are not the least bit interested in dividing reimbursement bundles with others.”
