Sickle Cell Education Conference Set
As part of a first-of-its kind sickle cell education campaign, UAMS is sponsoring a conference on the debilitating blood disorder Sept. 8-9 at Children's Hall on the Arkansas Children's Hospital's East Campus. Allan Platt, who co-authored the book "Hope and Destiny: A Patient's and Parent's Guide to Sickle Cell Trait," will be the featured speaker. Platt is also program coordinator and physician assistant at the Georgia Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center, Grady Health System in Atlanta. The conference is free for the public, $10 for medical students and $25 for health professionals. It is geared to Arkansas sickle cell families and health care providers. Nurses who attend will receive contact hours for continuing education.
